Honesty, integrity, social conscience and ethics are words not often associated with estate agents, yet these are the very minimum standards that Peter George (FNAEA) (CPEA), the managing partner of Marchants Estate Agents, lives by and looks for in his staff who handle both sales and lettings.
Peter started his career in estate agency in 1967 and has seen many changes over this period. Holding deposits of 10% were routinely taken and deals agreed on the strength of an individual’s word and a handshake, which meant you were rarely let down. Peter learnt his trade from other experienced staff members and from the many specialist trades such as surveyors, damp, woodworm, drain specialists, plumbers and many others that Peter would accompany to the various properties when further investigation was required.
Peter and his staff have all followed this pattern of training, which allows them to help guide concerned purchasers through any issues which may arise from a survey report and in particular our experience can help with those receiving a survey report for the first time.
He said: “The biggest change to estate agency has been the emergence of computers and the internet which we have readily adapted to. We have always been ready to embrace the new technology on offer, in order to assist our sellers and purchasers to find their dream home.
