BRIGHTON Rainbow Fund has appealed to the city’s residents to make a donation to the charity during what would have been Pride weekend.

Brighton and Hove Pride, the biggest fundraising weekend for the charity as well as local LGBTQ+ and HIV projects, was cancelled earlier this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the charity said: “The biggest fundraising components of Pride weekend, Pride in the Park and The Village Street Party, have had to be cancelled once again, and we are likely to have a large drop in funds to distribute as grants for the second year running.

“We are asking everybody in Brighton and Hove who can to consider making a donation of £5 to the Brighton Rainbow Fund this weekend to celebrate Pride and mark the occasion in a positive and useful way.”

They added that donations would help make up the shortfall in funding and allow them to “continue to contribute to the vital and important services” that help people in the city’s LGBTQ+ community.

The appeal comes after Brighton and Hove Pride said they were “devastated” that they are unable to host the festival and celebrations for a second year in a row.

“We can’t wait to bring back Pride in 2022 better than ever, celebrating and campaigning for LGBTQ+ communities and rights around the world,” the organisation said on Twitter.

Those who wish to donate to the Brighton Rainbow Fund can text 5BRF to 70085. The text will cost £5, plus one standard message.
