THE RSPCA is hosting its annual Fun Day and dog show on Sunday.

The event, held to raise awareness of the work done by the RSPCA, was cancelled last year due to Covid-19.

The Brighton branch is run independently from the main RSPCA HQ. The funds raised from the event go towards running the centre.

This includes paying for food, toys and bedding for the animals at the Brighton branch of the RSPCA.

The dog show and fun day will be from 10.30am to 4pm and is held in the sports field opposite the centre along Braypool Lane, Patcham.

As well as the dog show for dog owners, there will be lots of shops and stalls, tombolas, catering and a licensed bar.

The fun day is free to enter, but the dog show is £2.50 per entry.

The categories for the dog show include the prettiest bitch, most handsome dog, waggiest tail, the dog the judge would most like to take home, dog most like the owner, best veteran, best puppy, best rescue, best bull breed, best mix breed.

Branch manager Jenny Eden said: "We are really looking forward to hosting this Fun Day and inviting local people to come and see what we do.

"In the past, it has been a great success and has raised much needed funds so we can carry out our vital animal welfare work.

"Because of Covid-19 we weren't able to hold our Fun Day last year, and like all charities, our fundraising was badly hit, so we really hope this year will be better than ever.

"We would really encourage local animal lovers to come down, get involved and to support us."

The RSPCA in Brighton takes in animals that have been abandoned. It also helps animals facing cruelty and neglect, which can then have a second chance at a happy home.

The RSPCA's kennels will not be open to the public this year. The branch is currently full, with 27 dogs currently available for rehoming.
