As The Blues Brothers sang, everybody needs somebody to love.

Those unlucky in love should visit Brighton Unitarian Church on Saturday, February 11, for a concert that promises to fall in love with them.

Brighton-based writer Peter Kenny and composer Matthew Pollard are launching their first collaborative CD, Clameur, at the New Road venue.

The focus of the concert will be the 35-minute concept piece This Concert Will Fall In Love With You, which traces a passionate love affair through poetic declarations of love to emotional blackmail and a heartbroken conclusion.

The audience will listen to a series of emotionally-charged variations for marimba, vibraphone, violin, piano, choir and spoken voice (librettist Peter Kenny's own) that falls passionately in love with them personally as the piece progresses.

“When the idea of a performance that fell in love with its listeners hit us, we knew we were onto something truly original,” says Pollard, who is conducting the concert.

Kenny suggests, like most relationships, that experiencing the piece is not a simple process.

“It’s Marmite: when we perform this piece, nobody is neutral. Luckily for us, most people love it,” he says.

The album was recorded in St Michael And All Angels Church, in St Michael’s Place, Brighton, in July, at the same venue where This Concert Will Fall In Love With You was given its world premiere as part of the 2010 Brighton Festival Fringe.

The launch concert will feature more music from the album, including Minotaur and the title-piece Clameur (cry or plea), which are all for spoken voice and varied instrumentation.

Support is from The Shakespeare Trio, who fuse the Bard’s sonnets with impressive guitar work.
