Two Spot GobiFrom: Brighton Profile: Now celebrating six years together, Brighton six-piece Two Spot Gobi are one of the city's quieter success stories. After hooking up with singer-songwriter Jason Mraz, who spotted them while on a day off playing a Plymouth gig, the band suddenly found themselves on another level. They recorded their second album in California, under the watchful eye of Niko Bolas, whose production credits include Neil Young, John Mayer and Regina Spektor. The resulting album, The Sun Will Rise, is released on Monday, May 16, heralded by their next single Guiding Star, which contains their signature mix of pop, rock, reggae, jazz and funk, as collected on previous album Everywhere You Should Have Been and four EPs. As well as performing with Mraz, who also features on the album track Tomorrow, the band has played with Bruno Mars, Newton Faulkner and Michael Buble. In 2009 they were asked to play US chat show host Leeza Gibbons post-Oscar party, to guests including Paris Hilton, Slash and Olivia Newton John. They have even played in front of royalty, after Princess Beatrice was spotted at their London Borderline show earlier this year. But the band hasn't forgotten its roots - having recently toured secondary schools and provided music workshops for children. Lights On from the forthcoming album The Sun Will Rise.
