Jim Briffett
Profile: Cutting his teeth as a guitarist with Brighton indie bands Junk English, Autumn Red and as frontman of Lords Spiritual, Jim’s first experience of touring came when he joined Clearlake to support their third album Amber on Domino Records. “Clearlake opened up my eyes to the whole indie scene and they taught me how to drink,” he says. “We had a lot of great times recording and playing live.” For the past four years Jim has played for chamber pop quintet The Miserable Rich, featuring on the first two albums, 12 Ways To Count and Of Flight And Fury. On tour he has played all over Germany and at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where he schmoozed with Graham Coxon among others. Now Jim is striking out on his own with his solo debut album Mountains ’n’ Lightning, which is due out later this year. “All those years of singing backing vocals have made feel more confident about my voice. I’ve finally realised it suits me better singing deeper,” he says. “As much I love playing in bands it’s great to be free as an artist and do exactly as I want.” The album features guest appearances by Clearlake’s Jason Pegg on harmonica, and The Miserable Rich’s Mike Siddell on violin.
