Eastbourne Borough have cancelled the contract of former Fulham defender Adam Watts.
The 27-year-old, who also played for Lincoln City, has been dogged by injuries for the past two season.
At times he has played through the pain barrier with persistent knee and ankle problems but has now decided to take a rest from the game after mutually agreeing to cancel his deal at Priory Lane.
After joining in October 2012, Watts was almost an ever-present in his first two seasons at Borough but managed just 24 games last season and has played only 11 times this season.
Borough boss Tommy Widdrington said: “Adam must put his body and health before his football for a while.
“He has thought long and hard and has been honest to himself and to the football club.
“At his best, Adam is as fine a player as any defender in this division and he has served the club superbly in his time here. Just as important, he is a top young man with character and integrity, and is greatly respected at Borough and beyond. We will stay in contact with each other.”
Watts will get the chance to say goodbye to borough fans when he attends the home match with Oxford City on Saturday week (December 5).
