Micky Adams is fuming after Darren Currie turned his back on an offer to join Albion.
The Luton playmaker has signed a three-year deal with Chesterfield.
Adams has accused Currie of using the Seagulls' interest to earn himself a better deal with the Spireites.
The Seagulls boss said: "While I'm disappointed that he chose to do that, I'm not that surprised."
Albion had appeared to have been on the brink of signing Currie from the trouble-torn Hatters for at least a week.
Even on Saturday, Adams said Currie had agreed to move to Withdean.
However Chesterfield are celebrating a transfer coup and believe the offer of a three-year contract tipped the balance their way.
