Albion's wide men have been warned a top Gai is snapping at their heels.
Former Barcelona prospect Gai Assulin made a promising debut as a late substitute in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at Hull.
The 21-year-old Israeli, signed on loan from Manchester City, is likely to be involved in the squad again against Ipswich at The Amex today.
Kazenga LuaLua, Will Buckley, Craig Noone and Vicente are also in contention but boss Gus Poyet cannot squeeze them all in, with only five subs allowed in the league.
Poyet told The Argus: “Gai has quality. He will keep the ball and make things happen. He is going to challenge the wingers. They will have to be at their best because if not he’s going to have a chance.”
Poyet has warned that Assulin and his Manchester City team-mate Abdul Razak are not fit enough at the moment to play a full game.
Razak lasted 77 minutes at Hull before the 19-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder was replaced by Assulin.
Poyet said: “Abdul was better than in training, because of the space, the way he attacks and the ability he has got and strength. He has been missing playing 90 minutes.
“He is stronger than he looks. He can hold the ball, do a trick, have a shot. He is good passing the ball, we just need to make him play the way we play, especially without the ball.”
Poyet will continue his recent squad rotation policy against under-achievers Ipswich after Albion reached the 50-point barrier at Hull to stretch their unbeaten run in the Championship this year to eight games and stay in touch with the play-off chasing pack.
“Right now it is not easy for me to find the best starting line-up, so we will make changes until we find it,” he said. “The main thing now is to get back to winning ways. We’ve had a couple of draws and we need to win.”
