Gary Dicker insists Albion have no intention of chasing anyone for the League One title after going 15 points clear of Southampton.

The Seagulls midfielder has broken the squad’s four-month silence over comments made by Saints manager Nigel Adkins.

Adkins has irritated and amused Albion fans with his efforts to talk up his side’s hopes of winning the division.

Dicker revealed after the 2-1 win over Swindon that the players have also been extra motivated since drawing at St Mary’s in November.

That was when Adkins was asked if Saints and Seagulls would be fighting for the title and replied: “If they can keep with us.”

Dicker said: “Little bits like that help you as a footballer. This is the first time we have mentioned it. We kept it locked up for a long time but we are 15 points clear and we won’t be chasing anyone.”

Adkins’ quote was repeated in Saturday’s match programme and pointed out by coach Charlie Oatway in the run-up to kick-off.

Dicker added: “The way we are playing I don’t think anybody will catch us because we can win so many different ways.”
