Tommy Elphick has admitted Albion let two points get away against Leyton Orient.
But he felt his side could have grabbed a much-needed win, despite seeing skipper Andrew Crofts sent-off 20 minutes from time.
Elphick, who took the armband for the closing stages, said: "That game was made for a hero.
"When you get a corner in the last few minutes you go up there and you're thinking 'could I be that hero?'
"The gaffer brought Harty (Gary Hart) on, which was an attacking change.
"The win was definitely there for us.
"We were taking risks at times and I thought it was either going to go one way or the other.
"Luckily enough we managed to keep a clean sheet and a point is better than none."
Elphick admits Albion face another key clash tomorrow at Wycombe, who were thrashed 4-0 at Yeovil yesterday.
He added: "The lads will be thinking they have done all right themselves but it's two points dropped rather than one gained."
