Two second-half goals from top scorer Matt Tubbs helped Crawley to a 5-2 win over Hayes & Yeading at the Broadfield tonight.
Reds stretched their unbeaten run in the Blue Square Bet premier to 19 games and are now six points clear of AFC Wimbledon, whom they entertain on Friday, with four games in hand.
More importantly, they are 11 clear of Luton Town who were held to a goalless draw at Cambridge United.
The scoreline slightly flattered the hosts who fell behind after two minutes to a powerful angled volley by Elliott Buchanan.
Crawley levelled midway through the first half when John Dempster scored his first goal for the club with a close-range half volley and were in front on 38 minutes when Richard Brodie teed up Josh Simpson for a close-range finish.
Hayes hit back before the break through Bradley Pritchard but Reds were much more positive in the second half.
They went back in front after 58 minutes when Matt Tubbs curled in a delightful free kick from 20 yards after a foul on Sergio Torres.
Tubbs got his 32nd of the season with an angled drive which took a deflection off defender Adam Bygrave 13 minutes from time and skipper Pablo Mills headed a fifth in the final minute from Ben Smith's corner.
