Crawley moved back to the top of the Conference after a first-half goal from Matt Tubbs secured a 1-0 win at Rushden & Diamonds.
Tubbs struck his fourth goal in three games and eighth of the season from close range in injury time after good work down the left by Dean Howell.
In a game of few chances Crawley saw out the game comfortably to move a point clear of Mansfield at the top.
Boss Steve Evans carried out his threat to make changes after the 2-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.
Among them was the return of midfielder Dannie Bulman who has re-joined Reds on a three month loan deal from Oxford United.
Torres replaced Steve Masterton alongside the recalled Ben Smith with Pablo Mills dropping to central defence with skipper Adam Quinn ruled out by injury.
Michel Kuipers also returned in goal.
