Albion boss Gus Poyet has warned fans he cannot guarantee a play-off place with his updated squad.

Poyet rates the group of players he has assembled as above average but is making no promises about delivering a top six finish.

The Seagulls face MK Dons at Withdean on Saturday in their first league game since the August transfer window slammed shut.

They signed winger Kazenga LuaLua back on loan from Newcastle and 18-year-old Norwegian striker Torbjorn Agdestein on deadline day and followed that up with another forward 24 hours later after Spaniard Fran Sadanza cancelled his contract with Dundee United to become a free agent.

Poyet had previously drafted in former Chelsea defensive midfielder Liam Bridcutt on a short-term contract to deputise for the injured Alan Navarro.

The Uruguayan, asked to assess the business he has done, told The Argus: “If you gave me one to ten I would say seven, seven-and-a-half. That means it is not ten. I do dream, like everyone, but I don’t lie to people and at the moment the team is seven-and-a-half.

“We are trying to get better than last year. That means top ten and from there we’ll see. Nothing has changed in terms of saying now we will get promoted.”
