Dick Knight says he is disappointed that Jim Gannon has turned down the chance to become Albion's new manager.
The Albion chairman met Gannon yesterday but he has decided to stay at Stockport County.
Knight said: "Jim had certainly caught my eye and we had a lengthy and interesting meeting. But it was a never a done deal, because it was a huge decision for him to leave he's served as player and manager for so long.
"It is disappointing he has chosen to stay with Stockport, but the process to find the new manager will continue over the coming days."
Knight was due to interview another of the candidates on his shortlist today after having discussions with a second contender yesterday.
In the meantime Dean White and Bob Booker will continue in caretaker charge for Saturday's home game against fellow strugglers Crewe.
Gannon's said no so who do you think Albion should target now?"
