Albion have been told to keep faith with the way they play – even if it comes with a risk.

The Seagulls go to Leicester City in the Barclays WSL tomorrow aiming to move up the table.

They do so having conceded 11 goals in their last three games but making progress in the way they use the ball.

That tally includes the important 7-3 success at Bristol City last time they travelled.

Since then they have gone down 4-0 at home to Manchester United in the FA Cup and 4-1 to Manchester City in the league.

Those were the two games which came under the focus of Mikey Harris as he was asked about tightening up at the back.

Speaking ahead of the trip to the East Midlands, he said: “We have conceded a lot of goals, against top opposition I have to say.

“I think the last two games were very different.

“The Manchester United performance was really not us and not what we have been working on and not how we would want it to look.

“I think we have to be careful not to over-analyse that and we spoke about that.

“You take your learnings from the game and you look at the moments in the game that cost us but ultimately it wasn’t a performance that reflected us at all.

“I think if I look at the Man City game, there are some tough goals that we have conceded and we don’t want to be conceding those sorts of goals.

“Equally, sometimes you have to respect the quality of the opposition and sometimes you get punished in those moments whereas in other games you might get away with it.

“We are always looking for that balance.

“We want to dominate the ball, we want to have the ball as much as possible.

“We are going to take risks when we have the ball.

“That is part of the style, part of the identity.

“We have to learn from the mistakes we make.

“But we also can’t let the mistakes deter us from how we want to play and how we want to be as a team.

“My job, if you like, in that process is to empower the players, to support the players to make those decisions and to take those risks at the right times.

“But also then not to come down too hard on them if we make mistakes because then we won’t play the way we want to play.”

Harris believes a trip to the King Power will suit his side as they look to play their passes.

He said: “It can help us hugely. We are incredibly fortunate to have the facilities and the standard of pitches that we have here at the training ground.

“Crawley has a huge amount of games on it across the season.

“I think we have had the wettest month on record in February so the ground staff do an amazing job to get it to the level that they do.

“To play on a Premier League pitch with the standard of the surface, I am hoping it will suit us.

“It will suit them as well, though!

“It’s great for us because that is the sort of standard of pitch we train on every day.

“The ground staff here do an incredible job.

“It gives us an opportunity to play on a pitch which replicates what we are working with on a daily basis.”
