Jeremy Sarmiento enjoyed an impressive return to international action as he maintained his good recent form.

The on-loan Albion man started a friendly for Ecuador against Guatemala and caught the eye in a role off the front man.

His stunning diagonal pass led to John Yeboah scoring the opening goal on his debut.

Sarmiento has been in good form for Ipswich after switching his loan commitment from West Brom midway through the season.

It was his first international appearance for a year.

Speaking after the 2-0 win in New Jersey, he said: “I feel really good to be back here.

“It has been a difficult time, not being with the national team.

“But now I am really pleased to help the team, with an assist for this star (looking at Yeboah).

“Now we keep going. We have another match (versus Italy) on Sunday and hopefully it goes well.”

Yeboah, who was born in Germany, has struck up an understanding with Sarmiento, who said: “In truth we didn’t know each other.

“The first training session, I saw he had some things about his game which I really liked.

“We speak in English so we are always together."

Sarmiento has set his sights on tournament football.

He added: “We were saying it would not be an easy game.

“We are preparing for the Copa America so we didn’t see this game as a friendly.”

Sarmiento played the first 73 minutes while Albion left-back Pervis Estupinan remained as an unused sub.
