Bart Verbruggen has been told to prepare for more action in goal for Holland.

The Albion keeper will earn a fifth senior cap when he faces Germany in a friendly in Frankfurt on Tuesday before heading back to club action.

Dutch boss Ronald Koeman will start with Brentford’s Mark Flekken between the sticks against Scotland at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Friday.

Verbruggen headed into the international window on the back of successive shut-outs for the Seagulls at home to Nottingham Forest and Roma.

Perhaps significantly, Koeman said he was impressed by Verbruggen’s build-up play from the back as he assessed the goalkeeper situation.

Koeman sad: “We want both to play a match

"Mark and Bart are simply great builders in the first phase of the attack.

“We have it in mind who the three goalkeepers will ultimately be who will go to the European Championship when everyone is fit and has a rhythm of play.”

Verbruggen has identified footwork as an area to improve – and says he is self-critical.

Speaking after the recent win over Forest, he told The Argus: “In the first half there were two passes, one I got away with, and one I didn’t.

“I always have little bits after games where I feel ‘I could have done this, I could have done that’ but I think that’s also the way I progress as a person.

“Even though I have played a good game, I always try to look at the things that weren’t perfect.

“It’s quite difficult to play 90 minutes of football at this level absolutely perfect, so there are always bits that you can improve on and do better.

“That’s what excites me and gives me energy.”
