Experience: He represents Newhaven and Ouse Valley West on East Sussex County Council, which he has sat on since 1977, sat on Sussex Police Authority, including as chairman, until three years ago. Currently chairman of the Community Wellbeing Board of the Local Government Association.
Other: Governor of Tideway School, patron of Asham Literary Endowment Trust.
Priorities: “Listen to Sussex’s diverse communities and act on their priorities, seek new ways to combat crime at its roots – just locking people up does not address underlying issues, like 90% of offenders having one or more psychiatric disorders and alcohol is a factor in 44% of violent crime.”
