Apostrophile

11:11am Wednesday 24th December 2008

The apostrophe is often abused and neglected and may well be in decline, as Brighton author Lynne Truss profitably pointed out in Eats, Shoots And Leaves. But Argus writers could well do with acquainting themselves with its use.

Motoring on

11:12am Wednesday 24th December 2008

I reply to the comments of Simon Cooper-Grundy (Letters, December 18), criticising my views in the page 8 feature on parking (The Argus, December 15).

Cowards

11:12am Wednesday 24th December 2008

I was horrified to read of the attack on a 79-year-old lady (The Argus, December 18).

Club together

'Help yourself' is a pathway to anarchy

11:15am Wednesday 24th December 2008

For Mark Masterson to argue that anyone claiming to be homeless should be free to break into and occupy Fife House in Lewes Crescent, Brighton, is absurd and displays a cavalier attitude to the property of the law-abiding majority, many of whom are indeed concerned about the welfare of others (Letters, December 18).

Leaf it out

11:09am Wednesday 24th December 2008

People may have seen or heard a story in the Press over the past week about leaves on the streets in Sompting.

Tough choices

11:10am Wednesday 24th December 2008

In her letter (The Argus, December 20) Councillor Dee Simson rolls out the current Conservative line of trying to take the credit for everything positive, while blaming the Labour Government for everything negative.

Decline of church not good enough

3:41pm Tuesday 23rd December 2008

It is hard to give credence to the reasons offered by the Diocese of Chichester for not holding a Christmas midnight Mass at St Peter’s Church in Brighton (The Argus, December 20).

Fuel hypocrisy

3:32pm Tuesday 23rd December 2008

I find it contradictory that the leader of Brighton and Hove City Council and the cabinet member for housing are calling for “action on extortionate fuel bills” (The Argus, December 19).
