New sites for gypsies and travellers will be created in Brighton and Hove under plans by the Green council.
The newly elected council has vowed to identify land to meet the needs of the travelling community and increase provision in the city.
It comes after Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas supported a motion in Parliament that, if passed, would encourage councils not to evict travellers from a site unless there was suitable provision elsewhere.
Critics say if the proposal is passed it will lead to “dozens of semi-official sites” dotted around the city.
The city currently has one authorised transit site at Horsdean, which has 23 pitches.
The Greens have yet to outline how many sites would be needed to meet the travelling community’s needs or where the potential sites would be.
