So, today is my penultimate no-car working day, and I spent some of it getting wet - again.

I cycled to the University of Sussex to chair a meeting of the University Research Governance Committee, which might sound dull but is actually fascinating. The committee's role is to make sure that the research done throughout the university, including the medical school, is ethical and above board.

I may have mentioned before that I think I was invited to be a member of the University of Sussex council because I have been a student at the university so many times. My student life was very productive because as well as a BA, an MA and a post-graduate certificate in creative writing, I had both my children during my (mature) student years. Before all that, I attended the University of Brighton across the road to train as a health visitor.

Here I am with the Registrar John Duffy and Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Bob Allison. Bob tried out my Brompton and was so delighted with it that he says he is going to buy one - goes to show that the extendable seat tube is extremely adaptable. I should add that the Vice Chancellor of Brighton University, Professor Julian Crampton, is also an enthusiastic Brompton user.

On Monday morning, I hope to cycle to Worthing with one or two colleagues who live in Brighton. In the meantime, good luck to the Seagulls away at MK Dons!

Fundraising has reached £2,250, with more promised, and I have received photographs of some of the children we are supporting, which makes the project extremely real. Please click HERE to learn more. Thank you.
