Thanks for taking a look at my blog. I am raising money to pay for schooling for 10 children in the Southern Punjab, the part of Pakistan devastated by the floods last year. Donations can be made via Just Giving by clicking on the link below.

Some of you will also know me as Chief Executive of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust - we provide mental health, substance misuse and learning disability services in hospitals and clinics around Sussex.

So this is it. I parked the car last night and won't be driving or travelling as a passenger by car for a month. I'm currently in the office in Worthing, having got here from home in Brighton by bike, train and then bike. Apart from a short break to write this, I'm in meetings all day, the last one from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at Brighton and Sussex Medical School at the University of Sussex. Later I will be wobbling off back to West Worthing station and on to Falmer via Brighton by train, and then cycling home. Later blogs will include a running total of my miles by bike, bus and train.

So far, the main challenges have been how to fit work clothes and shoes AND laptop AND papers AND lunch into the small Brompton front bag (looking out of the window at the driving rain, I suspect that leaving out the waterproof trousers to make space for make-up bag was a bad call), and remembering how to fold and unfold the bike. Easy at home in the peace of the kitchen, much harder under the watchful eye of seasoned rail commuters.
