A devastated teenager will name her first child after her father who died when he slipped on ice and fell into freezing water.
Rylie Freeman, who is due to give birth on March 27, has vowed to pay tribute to Stuart Williams through her unborn son’s middle names.
Mr Williams, 51, whose funeral will be held on January 19, worked as a painter and decorator in Brighton and Hove for more than 20 years.
He died after losing his footing while walking across a gangplank to his narrow boat on December 20.
He plunged into water and died almost immediately of hypothermia after the incident on the Avon and Kennet Canal, Devizes, Wiltshire.
Mr Williams’s constant companion, his dog Ginger, sat by the riverbank yelping until his body was discovered.
Rylie, of Hardwick Way, Hove, is now looking after Ginger.
An inquest into Mr Williams’s death on December 20 has been opened and adjourned.
His funeral will take place at 1.30pm on January 19 at Kingsdown Crematorium, Swindon. Anyone who knew Mr Williams is welcome to attend but they should wear casual dress or jeans.
