The first arrests have been made under a new extreme pornography law brought in after the murder of schoolteacher Jane Longhurst.
Legislation to outlaw x-rated images such as those depicting bestiality and rape was introduced as a direct result of the abduction and killing of the Brighton teacher in March 2003.
Now police have revealed they have made their first arrests under the law, which came into force in 2009.
In figures released under the Freedom of Information Act, Sussex Police said it had arrested three men in Brighton and Hove on suspicion of possessing extreme pornography, an offence under Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.
Jane Longhurst, who taught music at Uplands School in Hollingdean, Brighton, was killed by Graham Coutts.
Coutts, of Bennett Road, Hove, was obsessed with violent and degrading pornography. Miss Longhurst's family believe that was one of the reasons he chose to kill her daughter.
