Pub manager Julie Allen says they are just ‘bog standard’.
But the toilets at The Three Fishes in Chapel Road, Worthing, have in fact won a top award for its loos.
The watering hole was given a five-star rating in the Loo of the Year Awards 2010.
Toilet inspectors went snooping around toilets across the county this summer on the hunt for signs of grime.
Miss Allen said: “I remember seeing this man wandering around the toilets at 7am and thinking, ‘What on earth is he up to?’ “When I asked him, he said he was a toilet inspector so I just said ‘look around by all means’ and left him to it. He was like a secret agent, it was very strange.”
Miss Allen said she was pleased the pub’s toilets had won the top ranking and that it was the only pub in Sussex to have five-star facilities.
A five-star rating was also given to the Camping and Caravanning Club’s Chichester site in Densworth Farm.
The Loo of The Year Awards 2010 will be presented on December 3 in London by former Family Fortunes star Les Dennis.
