BRIGHTON'S new radio station, Surf 107, will begin broadcasting on March 27, it was announced today.
The station aims to break the mould of regional radio presenting. It will be providing a mix of new music, with leading DJs from Brighton's renowned club scene presenting their own shows. National and international celebrities will also be dropping into the studios on a regular basis. Surf, which will broadcast on 107.2 FM, will also feature regular news, sport, travel and comedy. It aims to capitalise on Brighton's reputation as one of the leading centres for the arts in Britain. The station, based in Steine Gardens, says it intends to reflect both mainstream and cutting edge musical tastes, and will have specialist dance and alternative shows. Surf 107 beat off competition last year to win an eight-year licence, defeating bids by Brighton FM, Energy 107 and Passion 107. It will broadcast from Brighton and will cover a stretch along the coast from Worthing to Saltdean. Surf chairman Simon Fanshawe claims the station will be: "As fun, fascinating and diverse as Brighton itself."
