Worthing West MP Peter Bottomley has apologised after being banned from driving for speeding.
The former transport minister said he would now be travelling by bicycle or walking after picking up a six-month ban.
Mr Bottomley picked up the automatic ban after totting up 12 points in a three-year period.
In a faxed message to friends, he said: "I am sorry to have offended so often."
Mr Bottomley, who has supported measures to reduce risks and casualties on the road, said he had had an unblemished driving record for 40 years.
A second statement of "contrition and apology", issued by Mr Bottomley's office, went on: "After one fault, he went past two speed cameras in Sussex at 36mph.
"Unfortunately, this was followed by the error elsewhere of mistaking a 30mph limit for a 40mph.
"He should not have made each of these culpable errors. They are offences that he admitted without excuse or pleas of mitigation. The law applies to him as much as to each other driver."
