A new plan for a 182-room city centre student hall has been unveiled.
The seven-storey complex, dubbed The Glass Works, has been proposed to replace the derelict Saunder's Glass factory in Sussex Place, behind Grand Parade, Brighton.
The new scheme has been put forward following Brighton and Hove City Council's rejection last August of a larger, earlier version of the plans, which then including 196 rooms.
Architect Mark Camillin, of Camillin Denny, said the designers had tried to respond to the reasons for the rejection.
He said the halls were aimed at meet the growing need for student housing in the city.
Both the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex have expanded in recent years.
A shortage of family homes in the city has also led to calls to provide alternatives for students who occupy many houses, especially around the Lewes Road area.
Plans are already underway for a village of 500 student homes at Preston Barracks.
The Glass Works is intended to provide accomodation for students going to the University of Brighton's nearby campuses in Grand Parade and in Moulsecoomb.
Its rooms will mostly be 12m sq study bedrooms, with some 13m sq studios.
The council will decide whether to grant permission before a deadline on Tuesday. April 6. To comment on the plans go to www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/planning.
