A councillor is under pressure to resign after reports of him partying with “hot natives” and “jugs of sangria” during a sanctioned break from town hall.

Tory Dan Kavanagh was given permission for a six month leave of absence from duties at Crawley Borough Council due to “business commitments” in Portugal.

But after posting about a “10-hour non-stop party” opposition councillors have called for the 23-year-old to quit.

Lib Dem councillor Linda Seekings said: “When I agreed to grant leave of absence I agreed it on the premise that he was going out there for work reasons.

“But if he has gone out there for a jolly for a few months then I think that’s blatantly wrong.”

Tory councillors defended Coun Kavanagh, who made national headlines in 2007 when it was revealed he owned a website selling saucy underwear.

Bob Lanzer, Tory leader for the council, said: “We have granted leave of absence. He is working for a travel agency. What he is doing is his private life.

“He is not letting people down in lfield, the area is being well covered by the two members who also cover it and he is contactable and is in contact with the people of lfield.

“I do not think he should resign.”
