We're almost at the end of January and we've still nothing to show for 2009. No points, no league goals, still second bottom and knocked out of the Trophy. Only good thing seems to be Mr. King being charitable and keeping at least one side bad enough to be below us!

It hasn't exactly been the easiest season so far but I think above all else the most frustrating part of 2009 seems to be our inability to "nick it" when others aren't at their best.

For me, we've competed in 90% of matches so far but have nothing. Torquay was the best performance of this year, we had the chances to "nick it" but it was Torquay who went home with all the points, bloomin' frustrating.

To their credit, the new lads have come in and done well and I've been particularly impressed with Shaun Wilkinson, who joined on loan from Havant.

He doesn't get in down at 'Looville but he's come in here, a league above, and looked pretty comfortable, starting both Torquay and Mansfield matches. He's filling the role of defensive midfielder at the moment and it seems to be improving Joe Keehan's game too, he seems better going forward.

Keehan's taken quite a lot of flack this season, some justified, but a lot purely 'cos of who his dad is. He certainly isn't the worst in this team and you know what you're going to get with him but in the defensive midfielder role, Wilkinson's energy makes him stand out. He missed a chance my nan might have taken v Torquay but you can excuse that.

The forwards who have joined, St Aimie and Charles, have also impressed me. Both big, strong and quick, they offer something different and the way they played together v Havant stood out.   Sunday takes us to Oxford, a place we've been before for a Trophy replay (1-0, pretty cold, u18 'keeper sped up there, dodgy penalty etc!). We could do the double over them and it would be nice (and much needed) to get 3 points but I'd take just a goal.

Well that's me for this week, pretty uneventful week in terms of football, shame it isn't that way off the pitch, but that isn't for now.
