This week will be one Rooks fans remember for a long time, and not for the right reasons. Progress in one cup, but dumped out of another.

Unfortunately for us, the most important cup was the one we said goodbye to on a chilly Tuesday night at home to Ridgeons league side Leiston.

Let's start at the beginning. We hammered Wick 5-1, or more Stefan Cox hammered Wick 4-0, and the other 21 players drew 1-1. He was on fire early on, and took himself to top scorer within 20 minutes! Steve Elliot added the 5th on 77 minutes before we conceded what turned out to be a consolation goal for the hosts.

That game ended on a sour note, with Chamal Fenelon being sent off in controversial circumstances. The details are not for here, but needless to say there has been some sensationalisation in certain areas about what went on. Fingers crossed he can get back to playing for the Rooks as he so desperately wants to.

By the Saturday, the Rooks faithful were confident of a victory at Leiston, despite it being a big banana skin. Leiston had been smashing goals in left right and centre in their league and we, well, hadn't. Upset on the cards for the lowest ranked team? Their fans certainly hoped so. The FA Cup was brought to the ground and fans had the opportunity to get a photo with it. Not bad for £2 a go!

The game started with us looking like we would win it. Cox should have given us the lead early but let the ball roll into a dip on the penalty spot before striking it. The referee had asked him to replace it, but the wind did it for him. He put it so far over the bar that I'd go look in your garden. A ball, property of Leiston FC, may have landed there.

He made no mistake with his next chance though, slotting the ball past the keeper after looking like he’d taken one too many men on. From there we looked like we would dominate and it was just a question of when, not if, the second goal came.

The second goal never happened, however, and we allowed Leiston to get on top. I never thought I'd want to hear the half time whistle so much.

The start of second half started as the first had finished, with Leiston on top. This time however they made use of it and netted within 2 minutes. It was a cross/shot that looped over Banks' head and into the goal. Cue mad Leiston celebrations.

The majority of that half continued the same. We were extremely nervous but we did have chances to finish the game, the best of which fell to Taylor. He, after beating two men, chose to shoot when in line with the post. Instead, he could have passed to one of three red shirts in the box.

The referee blew time and we'd have to do it all again.

Tuesday came and again, Rooks fans were confident that we could do the job at second time of asking. It wasn't to be. Again, Banks was lobbed on his line from a cross. The scorer claimed it was meant and the Leiston following (an impressive 100 or so) went crazy.

They had more to cheer about when they doubled the lead following some indecision by Banks. He went, came, went again, slipped, got up, looked back, goal. Pretty much like that.

We rarely threatened, and half time was not a good feeling for Lewes fans. It wasn't as bad though, as when the third goal rifled in. This time Banks could do nothing. We threw men forward, were caught on the break and the player scored probably his best (or at least most important) goal ever.

Dave Wheeler, who was a very impressive sub in both games, got our goal. We all believed it could be the start of a comeback but it served to be nothing more than consolation. We were lacklustre but take nothing from the visitors who thoroughly deserved their win.

Wrexham next Saturday. Absolutely vital we get some kind of result. Anything. A point off the keeper’s backside. I don't care how...
