This competition has never been taken seriously and last night’s attendance proved it. But those who did turn up saw a stunning goal from Mcleod and also saw Albion extend their unbeaten run to six games, with three victories on the road.

As I mentioned in my last match report Mcleod should have started, and did. Also, surprisingly, Loft and Lynch were given places instead of Cox and Elphick. Whing was moved to Midfield and Virgo moved into right back.

The first half saw Virgo go off injured after 14 minutes and he was replaced by Cox. Albion had a couple of chances from Mcleod and Forster, but both were saved by the Keeper. Northampton also had a couple of efforts but Albion’s defence stood strong.

Albion started the second half strong with a Richards free kick and Hawkins header from the resulting corner. Albion started to dominate proceedings and Northampton’s keeper was kept busy.

Then in the 68th minute Mcleod blasted a 30 yard shot which swerved into the net and put the boys 1-0 up and cruising into round two.

A good performance and now Adams has a selection dilemma with Loft and Lynch playing so well. Saturday sees Scunthorpe come down to Withdean - if Virgo is injured I think he should play with this team.
