A consultation is underway over plans to relocate a school.

West Sussex County Council has invited people to share their views on proposals to move the Jessie Younghusband Primary School in Woodlands Lane, Chichester, to the new school under construction in the city's new Minerva Heights development.

The council said this would allow St Anthony’s Special School, which currently shares premises with the primary school, to expand into the existing building and create 50 more places for special educational needs students.

The council said this would allow "for a relatively low-cost permanent expansion" of the school and that it would be completed in a "shorter timeframe" than alternative options.

To help the council decide whether to go ahead with proposals, a formal consultation is now underway until May 16.

Once the four-week consultation period is over, the county council's cabinet member for children and young people, learning and skills will be invited to make the final call.

If the plan to relocate the school is given the go-ahead, there will be a slight change in the catchment area.

The plans to expand St Anthony's Special School will be directly influenced by the outcome of this decision.
