Police have confirmed there were no injuries after a tree fell and hit a bus that was on its rounds during Storm Ciarán.

The freak accident happened last night at around 6.45pm in Old Worthing Road, East Preston.

Sussex Police have confirmed that nobody was injured in the incident which came after Sussex was battered by gusts of more than 60mph.

The road was closed while highway teams removed the tree.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “We attended Old Worthing Road around 6.45pm on Thursday, November 2, after a tree fell and hit a bus. No injuries were reported.

“The road was blocked temporarily while highway crews worked to remove the tree.”

Stagecoach said that it was mainly branches that hit the bus.

A Stagecoach South spokesman said: “We can confirm that a tree collided with a Coastliner 700 at approximately 6.40pm on Old Worthing Road.

“We are pleased to report there were no injuries sustained to driver or passengers on board at the time.”
