A road in Sussex is set to be closed until Friday following a fire at a derelict nursing home, highways authorities have confirmed.
Crews were called to Plawhatch Lane in Sharpthorne near East Grinstead where the old nursing home had gone up in flames.
Now, after the road was closed to allow firefighters to tackle the blaze, the closure has been extended until the end of Friday, June 23.
A spokesman for East Sussex Highways said on Twitter: “Plawhatch Lane, East Grinstead is closed between Grinstead Lane and Hindleap Lane due to a building fire. Closure due to be in place until end of Friday 23 June.”
Six pumps attended the fire at the old nursing home including an aerial platform and two water carriers.
Flames consumed the inside of the derelict building and burst through the roof with smoke billowing onto the nearby road.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said:“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using three main jets, two fognail branches and a hydrant to extinguish the fire.
“There is still a lot of smoke in the area, please continue to keep doors and windows closed.
"If you live nearby please keep your windows and doors closed. We would ask drivers to avoid the area to allow crews to work safely."
