FIREFIGHTERS were called to a layby after a lorry carrying electrical waste caught fire.
Three fire engines could be seen spraying inside the trailer on the A22 Uckfield Bypass around 8am this morning.
The road is closed between the A26 Lewes Road and B2102 Copwood Roundabout.
An excavator was helping move the electrical waste out of the trailer. The fire can be seen in the centre of the waste.
There was also congestion in Newtown and Uckfield High Street, back along Bellfarm Road, Eastbourne Road and Framfield Road following the fire.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "At 08.16am, we were called to attend a lorry fire on Uckfield Bypass, Little Horsted, Uckfield.
"Crews from Uckfield, Lewes and Crowborough attended. One LGV was alight in the layby of the bypass.
"The A22 was closed off during the incident.
"We have now left the scene and the road has been reopened."
