James Bay

Chalk

JAMES Bay returned to his beloved Brighton for a triumphant show at one of the city’s best venues.

The charming musician walked out onto the stage at Chalk in Pool Valley alongside his band, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, to a rousing reception.

He kicked of the night with his track Best Fake Smile, which appeared on his 2014 album The Chaos and the Calm.

The opening number set the tone for an evening that was full of new tracks, guitar solos and a touching sing-along moment to some of James’ most loved and well-known songs.

Unlike some performers, James took the time to speak to the crowd and reminisce about the time he spent in Brighton, as a student at BIMM, in his late teens.

“Brighton is really dear to my heart”, he told the sold-out crowd.

James has not released an album since 2018, but he promised fans last night that a new record would be on its way this summer.

And judging by the reaction from to new tracks including One Life and Everybody Needs Someone, it’s sure to be as successful as his previous releases.
