THERE were 32 new cases of coronavirus confirmed across Sussex over the weekend, figures show.

In Brighton and Hove, 12 new cases were recorded between Friday and this morning, according to data from Public Health England. The city has now recorded a total of 14,659 cases.

Figures show the rate of infection for the latest seven-day period up to May 11 stands at 20.6 per 100,000 population.

There were five new cases confirmed in East Sussex over the period, bringing the county's total figure to 30,681 cases.

In West Sussex, 15 more people tested positive for Covid-19.

It means there has now been a total of 42,143 in the county since the pandemic hit.

The 32 new cases in Sussex were among the 287 new cases recorded across the South East since Friday.

It brings the region's total figure to 543,021.

Today, 1,926 new cases were recorded across the UK, taking the national total to 4,450,777.

Four deaths were reported nationally, within 28 days of a positive test. The total UK death toll now stands at 127,679.

In Brighton and Hove, 460 people have died in hospital with Covid-19, since the pandemic hit.

There has been a total of 1,755 deaths in East Sussex and 1,811 in West Sussex.

These figures reflect the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic for people whose death certificate mentioned coronavirus as one of the causes.
