A MAN has been found dead in a tent in a town centre street, ambulance crews have confirmed.
The Argus was contacted yesterday evening by a passersby who said they saw a large police presence near The Beacon in Eastbourne.
One witness said: "There is an ambulance car and a lot of police down here.
"People are gathering around to see what has happened.
"I don't know what the police are doing but they are all huddled around a tent."
At the time Sussex Police confirmed they were "dealing with an incident in Hyde Gardens in Eastbourne".
Pictures from the scene show several tents pitched in the street as officers speak to several people nearby.
This morning, a South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that a man was found dead in a tent.
He said: "At 4.02pm yesterday we responded to a call to Hyde Gardens, Eastbourne, but we were unable to anything for a deceased man.
"We have nothing to add to the police statement."
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "At 4.15pm yesterday the body of a man was found in a tent in Hyde Gardens, Eastbourne.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and the matter has been passed to the Coroner's Officer.
"Next of kin have been informed."
