TWELVE fire crews were called to a large blaze involving eight diesel and heating oil tankers at a business park this morning.
Around 60 firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service battled the fire at Rowfant Business Centre in Wallage Lane, near Crawley Down.
Two crews were originally called at around 1.15am from Turners Hill and Crawley to find tanks of red diesel and heating oil alight at the scene.
A total of 12 crews were sent to the scene from Crawley, East Grinstead, Surrey and one pump from Gatwick brough foam to assist with putting out the fire.
An aerial ladder platform was also used to deal with the blaze.
Witnesses reported seeing large plumes of smoke from the M23.
Residents have been advised to stay away and keep windows and doors shut.
Southern Rail have said that the fire is not affecting services.
The fire has now been extinguished but firefighters will remain at the scene to secure the site and make the area safe.
No one was injured during the fire.
