A UNIVERSITY student will be rubbing shoulders with famous chefs at Britain’s top food event
Jordan Bellamy is working alongside Mary Berry, Nadiya Hussein, Bruno Loubet, Georgio Locatelli, Mark Hix and Tom Parker Bowles at The Fortnum and Mason Food and Drink Awards.
Jordan, 20, a third-year radio production student at the university of Brighton, composed the theme music and ‘stings’ (jingles) for the podcast which is presented and produced by his former lecturer Gilly Smith, who taught broadcast media and broadcast journalism at the Hastings campus.
The podcast hit the number one spot on iTunes food and drink earlier this year.
The podcast, which accompanies delicious.magazine, has been shortlisted for the best radio food programme or podcast and is up against BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme and The Kitchen Cabinet.
The shortlisted episode features Rick Stein as well as the University of Brighton’s Dr Tim Wharton, principal lecturer in humanities, who discusses his book, Ugly Food; Overlooked and Undercooked.
Winners will be announced on May 11.
Jordan said: “As a student who has been constantly producing jingles, music, and various other content for podcasts and radio shows, mainly on UoB’s very own BUZZ Radio, I feel elated that I am now working on projects that are being recognised by award committees.
“When I first started studying my goal was to improve the skills I already had, to then graduate and achieve this level of recognition later on down the line. Who knew it would come so early?
“After finishing my dissertation I plan to produce my own podcast series and to continue working as a producer on truly incredible radio and podcast productions.”
Jordan and Gilly won a radio community award for a series for Radio Reverb on Syrian families in Brighton, Jaibli Salaam, with Jordan collecting the award at the event in Birmingham last September.
Jordan has also composed the theme music for Gilly’s podcasts for Borough Market which can be viewed at http://boroughmarket.org.uk/articles/podcasts
Now in their fifth year, the annual Fortnum and Mason Food and Drink Awards celebrate the very best writers, publishers, presenters, image makers and personalities working in food and drink today.
There are 12 categories and an independent panel of judges led by Ewan Venters, boss of Fortnum and Mason, selects the winners from work published or broadcast during 2016.
Each category winner receives a unique trophy.
