Fire crews hosed down 20 tons of rubbish that caught alight in a scrapyard.
A passer-by called 999 just after 9.20am today after seeing smoke billowing from a pile of shredded waste at the EMR scrapyard in North Quay Road in Newhaven.
Crews from Newhaven and Seaford pumped water from the nearby docks to put out the blazing pile of general rubbish.
The waste was moved around using a grabbing crane and damped down over the course of two hours.
