TODAY is the Palace Pier's 117th birthday and we are calling on our readers to make a special birthday wish.

For our beloved seafront attraction's special day we want you to back The Argus campaign to restore the pier's original name.

It had been known and loved by generations of Brightonians and visitors alike as Palace Pier.

But when new owners came in at the turn of the century, its name - and iconic signs - were changed to Brighton Pier.

After businessman Luke Johnson bought the pier in April, we launched our campaign to return it to its original name.

Within days, thousands of you pledged your support including well known names such as newsreader Nicholas Owen, Brighton Gogglebox family The Michaels, council leader Warren Morgan and the city's three MPs.

So on Palace Pier's big day, forgo the cards and presents and instead sign our petition.
