AN ELDERLY passenger has died in a car crash.
The 89-year-old was in the back of a grey Renault scenic when it crashed with a beige Nissan Qashqai between Polegate and Friston.
The woman from London was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with serious injuries and died five days later.
Police are seeking witnesses to a crash on the Jevington Road at around 2.15pm on Sunday, May 8. The Renault was travelling south and the Nissan was heading north near Butchershole Bottom.
A white Vauxhall Mokka travelling south was also involved but undamaged. Police said a number of other people had minor injuries and were treated at the scene or in hospital before being sent home. The road was closed for more than four hours.
A 62-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from London, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both have been released on bail until June 24 while enquiries continue.
Roads policing officer sergeant Clare Kenward said: "We're keen to hear from any witnesses to the crash or from other drivers who may have seen the vehicles involved being driven prior to it happening."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Caterham.
