A double-decker bus collided with a bridge between two buildings at the University of Sussex campus.
Engineers from the university are checking over the structure after the accident at 9am this morning.
No one is believed to have been on the top deck of the bus at the time and there were no injuries.
A spokesman for university said: “We can confirm that a bus number 50 hit a bridge under the external section of our Pevensey 2 building beneath the Bridge Café at 9.01 this morning.
"There were no passengers aboard or any bystanders so fortunately nobody was hurt.
"Although there is no visible damage to the building, our structural engineers are performing checks as is normal for such incidents.”
The Argus approached Brighton and Hove Bus Company for information on the incident, but none had been provided at the time of publication.
