A POWER cut affected the electrics of more than 120 homes last night.
UK Power Networks is currently working to restore electricity to ten customers in the Church Road area of Hove following a fault on an underground cable at about 8pm yesterday.
Power was originally interrupted to 63 customers and a further 64 customers had their electricity isolated later in the evening to allow for repairs.
The majority of customers had their supplies restored by 6.30am today.
One eyewitness said her lights started flickering and making popping sounds before everything went dark.
She said the power was off for about 11 hours.
Local media reported an “underground explosion” and UK Power Networks believe there was a smell of burning.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue sent two engines from Hove and one from Brighton at 8.07pm, though the Brighton crew left shortly afterwards. The Hove crews waited for the power company.
Police were also on the scene.
A UK Power Networks spokeswoman said: “Our team of engineers has worked hard to ensure electricity supplies are returned to normal as soon as possible, but repairs were made more complex due to a water leak in the area.
“We know how difficult it can be to be without power and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“We would like to reassure the remaining customers we will return their supplies to normal as soon as we can.”
