A campaign for justice for the families of two firefighters who were killed while tackling a blaze at a fireworks factory has been launched.
Justice for Marlie Farm firefighters - a new campaign launched by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) - has launched a campaign for justice for firefighters Brian Wembridge and Geoff Wicker, who died at a fireworks factory fire at Marlie Farm, near Lewes, in 2006.
After a long running court case, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were ordered to pay compensation to the families of the firefighters who died and to firefighters who were seriously injured after being found guilty of a number of failings.
The FBU says East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have so far refused to honour the court’s decision.
FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said: "Geoff and Brian dedicated their lives to the fire service and their families and our seriously injured members deserve much better.
“The way East Sussex Fire and Rescue have behaved is shameful but they still do not seem to get the message.
“I implore the public to get behind the campaign in order to get justice for Geoff and Brian.”
ESFRS said the latest court order was to allow an appeal by Zurich and it was “wrong to say ESFRS refused to honour the court’s decision” as the legal process was being observed.
It added the Court of Appeal dates were not set by the service.
A spokeswoman said: “This matter is in the hands of the legal teams for the insurers Zurich and the claimants.”
