An 83-year-old woman was knocked down and killed by a car moments after stepping off a bus yesterday evening.
The pensioner from Telscombe Cliffs was travelling on the Brighton and Hove Buses service number 12 when she got off on the A259 Buckle By-pass in Seaford.
Moments later as she tried to cross the road, the elderly woman was hit by a black Ford Fiesta at 5.20pm.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene but died.
The 36-year-old driver of the Fiesta, from Seaford, was not hurt.
The A259 had to be closed for several hours while the collision was investigated.
Sergeant Clare Kenward said: "It appears that the victim walked behind the bus after she got off it, and then stepped in front of the oncoming car as she crossed the road.
"I'm still keen to track down any witnesses to what happened who may not have spoken to us yet.
"I would also like to thank the motorists and residents for their patience while the road was closed and we investigated what had happened."
