A householder spoke of her sadness after a Victorian tree fell down in her road – despite it nearly crushing her car.
Vicki Davies, who lives in Chesham Street in Kemp Town, Brighton, woke up this morning to find a tree blown over in her street on top of her car.

She said: “I moved my car last night thinking it would be safe as it was by a slim tree. But then it was the bigger one on the side of the road which goes and blows down.
“I cannot really tell the damage as currently the whole car is covered by the whole tree. I'm hoping that the main trunk missed the car.
“The really sad thing is that these are Victorian houses and the tree has been there a long while.
“I'm guessing it's one of the oldest trees so far to have been blown down.”
Brighton and Hove City Council said it has received reports of 33 felled trees due to the weather.
Its teams were currently out removing debris, including those blocking highways in Seafield Road, Hove and Preston Park Avenue, Brighton.
